Poems on Pillows

As a partnership with the Sydney Writers' Festival and Sebel Pier One Sydney, Australian Poetry is thrilled to launch Poems on Pillows.

Ever dreamed of jumping between the sheets with one of Australia's top authors?
Or getting under the covers with a leading Australian publisher?
Well, now is your chance!

If you live in NSW, you're invited to submit a poem with the theme of ‘Sweet Dreams’ (maximum of 10 lines). Seven poems will be selected. Over the seven nights of the Sydney Writers’ Festival, a different poem will be placed on the pillows in every room at the Sebel Pier One Sydney hotel, where leading authors and publishers will be staying during the festival.
Competition Details
Entry Fee
$15 AP Member;  $20 non-member; $10 for every further entry by the same poet (you can enter as many times as you like)

Competition closes
31 March 2011 (5pm).

Judging panel
Made up of established poets and Australian Poetry representatives.

Prizes
  1. Selected poems will be printed and placed on a pillow of every room at the Sebel Pier One Sydney on one night during the Sydney Writers' Festival
  2. Selected poets will receive a free pass to an event at the Sydney Writers’ Festival (to be specified by SWF)
  3. Selected poets will receive a $50.00 food and beverages voucher to be redeemed at The Sebel Pier One Sydney's Front Restaurant
  4. Selected poets will have the opportunity to read their poem at an Australian Poetry public event
  5. Selected poets and poems will be featured on Australian Poetry’s website
  6. Winners will be announced on Thursday 7 April 2011
Terms and Conditions
  1. Entries must be a single poem of no more than 10 lines
  2. Poems must be submitted via email to leah@australianpoetry.org with the subject header: ‘Poems on Pillows’
  3. Previously published or prize-winning works will not be accepted. Entries should not be on offer to other publications or competitions at the time of submission
  4. Multiple entries are permitted
  5. Entries cost $15 for Australian Poetry Members and $20 for Non- Members. Then $10 for entries thereafter for poets submitting more than once.
  6. The closing date for entries is 5pm 31 March 2011, late entries will not be considered
  7. No refunds are available once a payment for a submission has been received
  8. Entrants must currently reside in New South Wales
  9. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into
  10. Winner/s will be announced on 7 April 2011
  11. Australian Poetry will ensure all personal details sent including contact details are kept confidential for the purpose of corresponding with you; Australian Poetry will not use your details or information for any other purpose without your consent
  12. You retain ownership over your poem and, if selected, give your permission to Australian Poetry to license the work for use as part of this competition
  13. You understand that, if selected, Australian Poetry has the right to design and print your poem, crediting you for your poem, for the purpose of the competition.
  14. You understand that, if selected, due to the tight timeframe of the competition, you may not get the opportunity to proof your work before the final design is printed and given to Sebel Pier One Sydney to place on their pillows, though Australian Poetry will make every effort for you to check the design before it goes to print
  15. You warrant that the work you submit for this competition is your own and can be used for the purpose of the competition without consent from a third party
  16. You warrant that you will not hold Australian Poetry liable for any aspect of the competition and our process in meeting our responsibilities
  17. You warrant that, if selected, you understand you will receive no remuneration from the prize or the public event where you'll be invited to read and the competition is for promotional purposes only
